Title
Petites affiches de l'arrondissement de Louvain
Description
*Petites affiches* was a weekly paper distributed in cafés and inns in the district of Leuven, including in Diest, Aarschot and Tienen. Originally the paper published only local advertisements, but in 1833 the newspaper expanded considerably to become, in its own words, “more interesting”. The paper’s format was enlarged and it started publishing articles on politics, literature, art, science, home economics, morality and religion. The articles were republished from other newspapers. This updated version was now also distributed to notaries. Additionally, the advertisements were put up in the form of posters around town. Around 1835, the newspaper became the unofficial mouthpiece of the Catholic party in Leuven and developed into the town's leading Catholic opinion maker.
