Title
Arbeid en volk: orgaan van de Unie der hand- en geestesarbeiders
Description
*Arbeid en volk* was the newspaper of the Unie der Hand- en Geestesarbeiders (UHGA). This organization originated during WWII when the German occupier obliged the Belgian trade unions to merge into one group. This was because the occupying forces wanted to use the trade unions to put the Belgian economy at the service of the German war effort. The newspaper *Arbeid en volk* was entirely at the service of the UHGA. It published widely about the various trade unions. Marcel De Ridder was editor of the newspaper and general secretary of the UHGA. In 1944 the chairman of the UHGA collaborated with the occupier and fled to Germany. Arbeid en volk and the UHGA were then dissolved.
