Description
*The Wipers Times* was a wartime newspaper of the British 12th Battalion stationed in Ypres in 1916. The publisher used an abandoned printing press to publish what would become an iconic newspaper. *The Wipers Times* owed its title to the British soldiers' pronunciation of Ypres. The paper’s name changed several times, resulting in multiple ‘first’ issues. However, the size and layout remained the same during the two years of publication. The newspaper had a largely humorous and ironic tone, and published poems, reflections, wry inside jokes and pamphlets about the battalion's situation. (en.wikipedia.org)
