Title
De klets: weekblad tegen Vlaamschhaters en volksbedriegers
Description
*De klets* was a satirical weekly founded by Catholic flamingants in Brussels. The newspaper was dedicated to the Dutch language. With its first issue, the paper expressed a willingness to fight for the language and the liberals ('Menige lans zal ons nieuw orgaan breken voor Taal en Vaderland, en de liberalen’). The front page of each issue had a cartoon dealing with a topical subject, such as the introduction of language laws or the Frenchification of originally Flemish areas. *De klets* is also a satirical name that referred to the whipping with which the editors felt the French and liberals ruled Belgium.
