Title
De Vlaamsche hoogeschool: maandelijksch orgaan van de Vlaamsche Hoogeschool-Commissie, gewijd aan de Beweging tot het bekomen van de vervlaamsching van de Hoogeschool van Gent
Description
*De Vlaamsche hoogeschool* was a propagandist monthly newspaper published under the direction of Hippoliet Meert. He was secretary of the Commission de Raet, which worked for the Dutchification of Ghent University. In 1909, the commission wrote a bill in support of this goal and used the monthly newspaper to promote it. Every month a list of the proposal’s supporters appeared in *De Vlaamsche hoogeschool* in order to put political pressure on the opponents. The newspaper also published the achievements of Dutch-speaking professors, emphasized how necessary the Dutch language was and wrote about how the French language was losing support in Belgium. The paper’s campaign proved successful and the committee won several victories in the Chamber. However, World War II brought an abrupt end to both the campaign and the paper.
