Newspaper
Title
De toekomst: weekblad voor de arrondissementen Gent-Eecloo
Description
*De toekomst* was a socialist weekly newspaper published for Ghent and the surrounding area. The newspaper published various news items, as long as there was a socialist link. For example, local reports from surrounding municipalities were included in the paper, as well as workers’ news and legal news. *De toekomst* even had its own serial, a chapter of which was published weekly in the newspaper. During the newspaper's existence, there were several chief editors. All were socialists at heart and actively engaged in the socialist union. Polydore De Visch was one such editor-in-chief. He also served as editor of [*Vooruit*](https://anet.be/record/opacbnc/c:bnc:211/E), among other papers, and was mayor of Ledeberg and senator for the district of Ghent.
